Nurturing a professional relationship is backed by three central pillars namely, Empathy, Obligation, and Anticipation. This support, if streamlined accurately, projects the organization towards witnessing a stable and triumphant stand in the market.

Studies reflect that 83% of employees believe an empathetic organization spurs the deed of belongingness and the urge to work efficiently.

All the time, we read about team leaders striving to drive their underlings to deliver to their absolute potential by multiple means of recognition and motivational models. The puzzle is, are we mirroring these models as employees to our bosses?

For an employee, working with a tough and non-understanding boss would shred them and ultimately face burnout every time. In such incessant situations, the employee would lose his undivided patience and bolt for unearthing the lost contentment. This isn’t healthy as it involves all sorts of negative outgrowths such as distress, alarm, burnout, and dissatisfaction which leads you to only a sticky end.

If we talk about motivation, it is a two-way street! To subsist at work for peace, nourish your professional relationship along with a pinch of tolerance, sympathy, and informality.

Here is a start in looking at strengthening your employee-employer relationship.

A. Try to empathize from all probable angles. If your boss yells at you in tautness or all the time, barking back or leading to a heated argument isn’t going to lend you anything. What can be done? Close your eyes and sip water. Then ruminate the following;

-Why is he behaving this way today?

-Why this stress?

-What can be done to deteriorate this from us?

We all yell at some point in time. It is absolutely fine. It is just a little bit of persistence and time which subtle the heat living. In the course of time, pleasant conversations such as “It will be okay” or “Just relax, what can I do to make this better?” or “Calm down, drink some water”. These ignite the essence of empathy and informality which brings in the ‘responsible characteristic’ in you. In this way, you are halfway to fashioning yourself as a leader.

B. Anticipate the pulse. As subordinates or team members, we should be able to envision certain actions of our boss such as demands, expectations to modify and make things right whenever necessary. At least from your side, ensure that your to-do list is efficiently mastered. In case of any delay, do report the same to evade any bustle. With minimal follow-ups from your boss, if you communicate the required accordingly, it brings out the ‘ownership‘ in you. This aids in building trust and delegation of more responsibilities which leads to harmony and smooth working.

C. Keep the talk within the four walls. Expressing with a colleague about your tough relationship with your boss can be a vital part as it can ruin things at work. Going further, this gives room to reinforce negativity in the workplace. Alternatively, try speaking to a trusted friend or family member whose conviction would be valued.

D. Make it easy for your boss. Initiatives go a long way. Let it be brainstorming, ideation, execution, or shouldering extra responsibilities, create a magic spell overwork. It makes the job manageable for your boss as most of the tasks are being taken care of and there isn’t constant surveillance required. Eventually, there is faith and trust as a team member. This helps in reducing unwanted stress amongst the team tasks.

Employees face the intangible presence around their boss once they start adopting indirect methods of motivating them. It gives them a sense of fulfillment. Once ratified, the ice breaks and there is a bright silver line drawn clustering confidence, optimism, and harmony which promotes a healthy workplace overall.

It’s a simple mantra. Watch, contemplate and practice the style of leadership accordingly!
